Ed. +/- 200 copies Reue um Reue is very proud to present the first vinyl mini-LP by the mysterious Italian one-man project SPETTRO FAMILY, following the much acclaimed tape album “Candelora” published last year on Brave Mysteries. It might be because he has been living in a presumably haunted house all his life that SPETTRO FAMILY succeeds in creating seemingly without effort the most truly haunting music, both bringing back to life the magic of GOBLIN’s giallo/zombie flick soundtracks, and channelling the spirits of the big synth-worshipping Italian post-industrialists (think RUNES ORDER or GERSTEIN). But the wraiths inhabiting this particular album come from further east: “La Famiglia Spettro” was inspired by a journey through Transylvania and carries in its subtle analogue synthscapes, achingly beautiful piano melodies, soft crackling gramophone sounds and spectral voices all the flavour of a decadent old world, and such an intense sense of sadness and nostalgia that it might very well bring you face to face with your own ghosts. Méndez, departing from the psychedelic post-industrial realm to venture into resolutely bleaker sonic catacombs. Named after the famous Christian martyr, “Santa Lucia” is an atmospheric descent into post-BM depths and occult-rock darkness, haunted by feeble screams, howling choirs and Méndez’ unmistakable ritualistic invocations. On the way, the psyché rock riffs have mutated into grim blackened buzz, in perfect symbiosis with the laptop glitches, Tomhetian synthesizers and the occasional Allerseelean loops and beats. Blood sacrifice muzak at its best.
