TROUM / AURAL HOLOGRAMS / MILITIA / SAVAGE REPUBLIC January 26th 2008 Hof ter Lo Antwerp Belgium. INTRODUCTION TO THE BANDS: TROUM (Germany): Troum is coming from Flat Land, the very north-western part of Germany and formed beginning of 1997 by two thirds of Maeror Tri. Troum means 'dream'. Troum chose this Old Germanic term to be able to remember the old and to save the option of looking back even though a returning remains impossible. Troum have established themselves as one of the major forces in modern experimental drone and ethereal ambient music. Troum arose from the ashes of Maeror Tri and is composed by Le Glit[S]ch aka Martin Gitschel & Baraka[H] aka Stefan Knappe. Martin is also active as "Maal Fend". Stefan is also running the label & mailorder Drone Records. Musical influences can be found in industrial classics (TG, SPK, Lustmord, Nurse With Wound), ambient industrial from the 80's (Zoviet France, Hafler Trio), experimental / noise rock (early Sonic Youth, Live Skull, Savage Republic, Branca, Big Black) and Wave & guitar spherics (Drowning Pool, Chameleons, Slowdive, Eyeless in Gaza).... Troum's aim is to lead the listener into a hypnotizing dream-state of mind, and use music as the direct path to the unconscious pointing to the archaic essence of human psyche ! Troum works to create altered states of mind, they work on the human unconscious sphere ... Their post-industrial drone music is created using a wide range of instruments like: guitar, bass, voice, accordion, balalaika, flute, mouth-organ, melodica, gong, field recordings & more, to create a sort of transcendental dark & atmospheric ambient industrial. Troum doesn't work with synths, samples or computer soundscapes ! The sounds are created "by hand" . "Transzendental Drone-Muzak ! Their presence is felt through the ambiguous, long, unbroken orchestrations of drone which form a radiant, holographic path leading to loss of self-consciousness... Aural Holograms- born after the proto-vibration, resurrected after aeons and finally finding its embodiment in 2006- is a group that focuses on fieldwork, aural excavations, conservation and embalmment of the archaic environmental pulsations and long forgotten atavistic forces lingering in the sub-mental states of All beings. Aural Holograms approaches holistic realisation of these forces through various sectors of acoustic reseach, and does not hesitate to don a mask, when it is time to call all the elementals into being once more. The groups backbone consists of A. Haapapuro (member of Aeoga, Arktau Eos, Halo Manash, I.corax) and J. Saivo (member of Tiermes) who are regularly assisted by specialists from different fields of study and research. The line-up in live situations usually includes two to four persons and by utilising primitive practices and soundsources crafted according to the methods that were handed down generations ago, Aural Holograms grant a multisensory experience through an engulfing and mystic atmosphere- an expedition revealing a passage to self-mummification. Their first goal was to spread the eco-anarchic philosophy and social views through music and films. Following the tradition of Test Department they formed a platform for social ideas based upon the anarchic society, inbedded in a new musical approach and providing a testing ground for new sounds and self-created instruments. Their political points of view were written down in the book "The Eco-Anarchic Statement" by their founder and spokesman Frank Gorissen and was based upon the ideas of Bakunin, Proudhon and Kropotkin, to mention a few. Militia present a combination of political ideas and industrial rhythms. Their music is percussive, using musical percussion installations, tools, conventional drums, self-made wind instruments and electronic music. This 6 piece performance group will present a series of tracks coming from their last albums "Everything is One" and "The Black Flag Hoisted", as well as a few tracks from their previous work ("New European Order"). SAVAGE REPUBLIC (U.S.A): Los Angeles art-punk pioneers Savage Republic have come roaring out of obscurity with "1938", their first full-length album of new material in 18 years, hot on the heels of this spring's powerful "Siam" EP, both on Neurot Records. The new album will be available in November, 2007. Throughout the 80's SR was a deep-underground phenomenon, playing highly unorthodox sows in remote desert locations, abandoned factories, skid-row parking lots and grimy bars across the U.S. and Europe with such luminaries as Einsturzende Neubaten, Minutemen, Sonic Youth and Live Skull as well as hardcore-punk slugfests with the likes of Bad Religion, Angry Samoans and Final Conflict. Known for their oddly-tuned guitars, tribal beats, shouted vocals, metal percussion (typically 55 gallon oil drums and items gleaned from dumpsters and junkyards), and Morricone-meets-Dick Dale melodies, their Performances were at times ritualistic and occassionally involved fire and explosives. Beginning with the arrestingly aggro 'Tragic Figures" in 1982 on through the wildly diverse experimentations of their final studio album "Customs", recorded while on tour in Greece in 1988, SR produced music that seemed to come from some distant uncharted region. A land at turns harsh and beautiful where elements of Mikis Theodorakis' film scores smashed into 60's psych, tribal punk and oddball Mediterranean folk-pop. Jarringly eclectic, they often sounded like a completely different band from album to album--at times from song to song on the same album. The music was packaged in beautifully distinctive chipboard covers hand printed by noted graphic artist, letterpress printer and band founder Bruce Licher. They even issued their own postage stamps. Then in 1989 everything went quiet as the republic scattered to pursue other interests. After reuniting in 2002 for a brief U.S. tour supporting the boxed-set reissue of their five studio albums by Mobilization Records, several of the members began sharing ideas for new songs, reviving the band officially in 2005. In their current incarnation Savage Republic core members Thom Fuhmann, Ethan Port and Greg Grunke are joined by UK punk-rock veteran Val Haller whose resume includes stints with Wayne County & The Electric Chairs, Flying Lizards, Lords of The New Church and X-Ray Spex, and noted drummer and percussionist Alan Waddington, known for his tenure with The Unforgiven as well as live and studio work with everyone from Willie Nelson to Gwen Stefani. The album also features contributions by guest artists including multi-instrumentalist Tara T. Tavi, classical violinist Julia Zuker and drummer Bryan Taylor. In keeping with their tradition of graphic excellence, the album is packaged in a tri-fold cover designed by and featuring the photography of Ramona Clarke-Fuhrmann.
